Draymond Green is a bit of a basketball unicorn. Not just because of the intelligence he has with the game, or the fact that his face is painted next to Neymar’s personal basketball court, but he also has a unique stat line that sets him apart from others.
As StatMuse pointed out, Green’s 8.3 assists per game, along with his low point total and field goal percentage, are putting him on pace for NBA history.
His gaudy assist numbers obviously are a good thing. It shows Draymond is the guy who can be the ultimate distributor for his team. And interestingly enough, the Warriors this season have the highest assists per game in the NBA (27.8).
That’s also a nod to teammate Steph Curry, who has been called the most unselfish superstar by Andrew Wiggins.
“He’s like the most unselfish superstar — that’s a good way to put it,” Wiggins said last March about Steph. “He attracts so much attention that he’s going to find the open man, and he makes the right plays.”
It appears to be a theme amongst teammates.

So yes, the points and the efficiency aren’t there, but Draymond still should always be in talks for Defensive Player of the Year, at least according to head coach Steve Kerr. And he remains a player you need on your team come playoff time — that, in a way, shows in these numbers.
He’s a very versatile defender who’s able to handle all five positions on the opposing end, and his defense was on full display in Tuesday’s win vs. the Knicks.
But regardless, both he and the Warriors clearly wouldn’t mind if those points and percentage numbers increase by season’s end.
