Odds as of April 3rd

Too Much Love for Garland

Kevin Love returning is good news for fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers but one guy that may take a hit is Darius Garland. Maybe not a hit as much as a shift in role. It’s only been one game and Love only played 20 minutes, but Garland looked way more like a distributor than anything else with Love on the floor. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, as Garland is a smooth passer.

Garland hasn’t been much of a scorer anyway as he seems just as happy to pass as anything else. If asked to score, obviously he can fill it up but in a game like tonight’s, with Love on the floor, it’s hard to imagine he takes more than 10 shots. Even if he does, they are playing the Miami Heat who are one of the better defensive teams in the NBA.

In his last meeting with the Heat, Garland went for only 11 points. He only took 11 shots and Love was in street clothes for that one. Given the slow pace this one will be played, the defense and the presence of Love, Garland would have to have an extremely efficient night to get to this number.

The Pick: Garland UNDER 17.5 Points (-128)

Theo is Ready for an Encore

The Oklahoma City Thunder are clearly rebuilding at this point. They’ve shut down Al Horford and they are not hurrying to bring back Shai Gilgeous-Alexander anytime soon. Also missing from the lineup is Luguentz Dort and Darius Bazley. This musical chairs approach to games has opened up playing time for other guys and one that has taken advantage is Theo Maledon.

It’s hard to expect Maledon to put up a game like he had last night but he won’t have to in order to get over his points-plus-assists-plus-rebounds number. He’s done it in three of his last four games and the Thunder get a Portland team that plays zero defense. In the last 10 games, no team has a worse defensive rating than the Trail Blazers. This is a good spot for a guy like Maledon to keep beasting.

The Pick: Maledon OVER 23.5 Points + Assists + Rebounds (-113)
