After playing sparingly as of late, Philadelphia 76ers rookie Isaiah Joe on Sunday was assigned to the Delaware Blue Boats in the NBA G League. He will join the team at the Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Florida.
Joe, in 20 appearances this season, is averaging 4.3 points and 1.2 rebounds in 12 minutes per game. He has logged more than 10 minutes just twice since the middle of January when he played extensively after the team dealt with health and safety issues.
The Sixers believe the assignment can be beneficial to Joe.
“He still wasn’t playing a lot of minutes,” head coach Doc Rivers said on Monday, via Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire. “We just felt like we gotta get these guys minutes. We got to get them playing on the floor and I think it can only benefit them.”
Prior to joining the Blue Coats, Joe will need to enter a mandatory quarantine period before being cleared to play. On Monday, the Blue Coats posted a 120-92 victory over the NBA G League Ignite as seven players scored in double figures.
With the win, the Blue Coats improved to 8-4 with three games left to play in the regular season. The team is on track to earn a playoff berth, meaning Joe will be available to play in the postseason with the Blue Coats before rejoining the 76ers.
The Blue Coats return to action on Wednesday vs. the Canton Charge at 11 a.m. EST.
