The return of NASCAR to the Nashville area with Erik Moses: Video

Fans have been waiting a long time for a stock car racing series to come back to the Nashville area, in fact, about 40 years.

Erik Moses, the president of the Nashville Superspeedway, talked about the upcoming events and its impact on the region on this episode of the Tennessee Voices podcast.

Moses, an attorney and former XFL football team president, headed Washington D.C.’s sports and entertainment arm and also taught sports industry management at Georgetown University.

He is a new resident of Wilson County, where the Nashville Superspeedway is located.

We discussed the global reach of NASCAR and also recent developments such as the banning of the Confederate flag at events. He said that removed a big hurdle from expanding the fan base.

NASCAR is also big in Latin America and one driver, Daniel Suarez of Mexico, drives for Trackhouse Racing Team, which has a presence in Tennessee.

Moses sees NASCAR racing as an extension of the success the Nashville area has achieved in attracting professional sports teams, such as the Tennessee Titans, Nashville Predators and Nashville SC.

“We’re going to show America how Nashville does NASCAR,” he said.
