The 2021 IndyCar season is just around the corner, and so is the debut of Jimmie Johnson. After retiring from the NASCAR arena at the end of 2020, Johnson decided to brush up his racing skills in another series. He’s slowly and steadily revealing details about his debut Indycar stint, and he recently unveiled his helmet for the new season.
The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion chose yellow as the helmet’s primary color. In addition to that, he has also added a shiny silver strip running across the top of his helmet. Finally, there are dark blue decals emblazoned on the lid, along with his iconic number #48 as well.
To cap everything off, the Carvana, Honda, and Ally logos are also present on the helmet. It is also worth mentioning that Troy Lee Designs are behind this magnificent creation, which is a variation of an early tease back in January.
Needless to say, the final product looks gorgeous. The best part is that fans will be able to see it in the open-wheel car, as opposed to the closed cockpit of the stock car.
What to expect from Jimmie Johnson in his debut season?
As this is Johnson’s maiden season in IndyCar, one cannot expect him to fight for the title right away. Although the Chip Ganassi Racing team is one of the fastest in the series, Johnson is still a rookie in comparison with the others. Additionally, he is not competing in the full season, but only in the road course races. Instead, Tony Kanaan will take over the wheel of the #48 car on the oval race tracks.
Without a doubt, Jimmie Johnson is excited to make his debut in his newest car and cannot wait to get started. It also helps that he has experienced teammates to shadow and learn from. Safe to say, the April 18 race at Barber Motorsports Park cannot come fast enough for Johnson and his Chip Ganassi Racing teammates.
