Renato Moicano never let Jai Herbert get in the fight in their UFC Vegas 30 main card opener. Repeated takedowns left the U.K. striking specialist little time to work, and a second-round takedown led to a quick tapout win for Moicano.
The fight was called off at the 4:34 mark of the middle frame as Herbert was trapped in a rear-naked choke. As soon as Moicano got his hands in position and squeezed, Herbert submitted. It was all he could do after being thoroughly dominated in the grappling department.
Check out the finish below.
Herbert got a few shots off before he hit the mat for the first time in the opening round, and that set the tone for the rest of the fight. Moicano quickly advanced position, taking mount on multiple occasions as Herbert did his best to get back to his feet. Late in the first, he managed to do just that and stick Moicano with a well-placed right hand and lead left hook. But it wasn’t long before he was back on the canvas.
Moicano had whipped around to Herbert’s back against the fence when he stuck out a leg and got the trip. As soon as Herbert offered space, the Brazilian snaked his arms into position and squeezed.
Moicano is now back to the win column after a knockout loss against Rafael Fiziev in his previous outing. Herbert has now dropped back-to-back losses after a knockout loss to Francisco Trinaldo that sparked a controversy outside the cage.
