Max Holloway is out of UFC 272 due to re-aggravating a prior injury.
Max Holloway is out of the scheduled trilogy bout against Alexander Volkanovski set for UFC 272, first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
Just two days ago the big fight between the former champion and the man who took the belt from him was announced. Unfortunately, Holloway has aggravated a prior injury which has forced him off the card.
The UFC has yet to make an announcement about Holloway’s injury or changes to the event. According to Okamoto’s report, there is not an official timeline for Holloway’s return to the cage.
Holloway was attempting to get back the belt from the man that beat him for it
Holloway was looking to get back the UFC Featherweight Championship that he lost to Volkanovski back at UFC 245 in December of 2019. His first shot to do so was at UFC 251 in July of 2020, but Volkanovski was able to get out of the Octagon with a close split decision victory. Since then, Holloway’s pulled out two victories over Yair Rodriguez and Calvin Kattar.
Volkanovski is still riding a 20-fight win streak that includes his victories over Holloway and a title defense against Brian Ortega at UFC 266.
UFC 272 is set for March 5 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Aljamain Sterling is scheduled to defend the UFC Bantamweight Championship against Interim Champion, Petr Yan. Other important bouts have been announced as the card continues to take shape.
