Jake Paul fight will be ‘biggest PPV of the year’

CLEVELAND – Tyron Woodley is making a bold prediction about the interest in Sunday’s boxing match with Jake Paul.

Woodley, a former UFC welterweight champion who makes his professional boxing debut against Paul in the Showtime pay-per-view headliner at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, thinks a record amount of people will purchase the fight in terms of combat sports bouts in 2021.

It’s a high bar, with the UFC 264 event in July headlined by Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor 3 reportedly selling roughly 1.6 million pay-per-views, but Woodley was confident in his statement.

“This will be the biggest pay-pay-view of the year,” Woodley told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at Wednesday’s open workouts. “I said it a long time ago, people thought it was funny. No other fight this year in boxing, in MMA this year has more people wondering what the f*ck is going to happen. This is that fight. I’m telling you right now: It’s war.”

Woodley said he’s left no stone unturned going into the clash with Paul. He wants to win the fight in the worst of ways and said he’ll be leaving everything inside the ring on fight night.

“All it is war,” Woodley said. “Anybody who has stood up for anything, it’s war on Sunday. I’m going in there for everybody. Not just MMA. Anybody who’s fought for anything. I feel like I’m the greatest.”
