Holyfield vs. Belfort undercard:

David Haye vs. Joe Fournier

Round 1: Alright, folks. Shaun Al-Shatti here to be your guide through whatever the hell tonight’s circus sideshow is going to be. I have no idea what to expect, but we’re here, it’s happening, and there ain’t no stopping it now, so let’s venture through this weirdness together. First up, a matchup between a retired champion boxer and a guy most know for being really rich. These two fellas are friends whose disagreement apparently began when they were both trying to impress the same woman. There’s the bell and we’re off. Let’s do it. Fournier goes right to work with a few body shots. Haye pops out his jab. Fournier lands a nice right hand. Haye clinches. Fournier slowly works into the clinch again. He walks right into a sneaky little jab, and that’s an early knockdown for Haye! Fournier recovers, but that was an easy one for Haye. MMA Fighting scores it 10-8 Haye.

Round 2: Fournier is already looking a little labored with his punches. Haye smacks him with a few jabs. The size difference really is jarring — Haye is huge compared to Fournier. More jabs from Haye. Fournier is getting crapped on fairly hard by the commentary booth, and deservedly so — he’s done nothing so far. Another easy round for Haye, who looks like he’s taking a stroll through the park right now. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Haye. (20-17 Haye.)

Round 3: Fournier walks Haye into the corner and lets go with a flurry, but nothing lands flush. Haye is having fun in there. He’s keeping his hands down and playing around. Haye’s jab is piston-fast right now. These two-minute rounds are incredibly short, but Haye is in cruise control. Fournier is exhausted. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Haye. (30-26 Haye.)

Round 4: Slow start to the round as Haye paws out that left. Hard right hand to the body for Haye. Haye walks him down but Fournier clinches to avoid the exchange. Fournier has only landed 10 total punches all night according to the official stats, but even that feels generous. All Haye, once again. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Haye. (40-35 Haye.)

Round 5: Fournier tries to kick things off with some offense but it’s a whole lot of nothing. Haye isn’t even doing much and he’s still a ghost in there compared to Fournier. Haye pumps out his jab. Fournier eats a left hand for his troubles, and another, and another. Haye looks like he’s taking it easy on his buddy. The announcers have stopped paying attention and are all about rapper 50 Cent opening a bottle of champagne next to them. Feels appropriate. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Haye. (50-44 Haye.)

Round 6: I’m fairly sure a “We love Trump!” chant just broke out in this arena. Florida, y’all. Slow start to the round but Haye is doing all the work with his jab. Fournier is basically a heavy bag in there — his existence is purely to eat jabs right now. Hagler-Hearns, this is not. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Haye. (60-53 Haye.)

Round 7: This is basically the lowest energy sparring session possible. Haye is doing his buddy a favor, because it feels like he could crush this man at any possible second. Haye still keeping his hands low but Fournier’s offense is nonexistent. Another round banked for Haye as the announcing crew continues to gush over 50 Cent’s champagne. At least someone is getting drunk for this. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Haye. (70-62 Haye.)

Round 8: The commentary booth is calling for Haye to knock this man out. Haye may be listening because he’s already much busier this round. Lots of jabs for Haye. He doesn’t have much time to work, but he’s talking to Fournier in there. Fournier throws a three-punch combination but whiffs on everything. Haye didn’t really even throw a punch the last minute. That was telling. Haye never lost a second of this fight, and he knew it. Fournier owes him a “thank you” for carrying him in there, because this feels like it could’ve been really, really bad. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Haye. (80-71 Haye.)

Official result: David Haye def. Joe Fournier via unanimous decision (79-72, 80-71, 79-72)
