MLB schedule, May 1st: Game times, TV channel info for Cubs vs. Reds, Dodgers vs. Brewers, more

We have another loaded 15-game slate on tap Saturday, beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET. Before first pitch between the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, we’ll take a look at the best games on the schedule, rookies to keep an eye out for, and fantasy spotlight.

Best Games To Watch

Surprisingly, there isn’t a ton of great pitching matchups on Saturday. However, we do get a good dose division games across the majors that might not hold a lot of weight right now. But those results in April and May could come back and make a huge difference when the calendar flips to September.

That being said, a couple of games to check out on Saturday is the New York Mets taking on the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 of three-game set. Taijuan Walker will be on the bump for the Mets, while the Phillies will start Zack Wheeler. Walker has been stellar in his first season in New York, with a record of 1-1 and 2.14 ERA. Meanwhile, Wheeler has been a solid No. 2 option behind ace Aaron Nola. The former Mets pitcher is 2-2 with a record of 3.13 ERA.

A couple other games to check out during the course of the day is the Cleveland Indians taking on the Chicago White Sox at 4:05 p.m. ET on FS1 and the San Francisco Giants playing the San Diego Padres at 8:40 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

Fantasy Spotlight

For Saturday’s fantasy spotlight, we are going to focus on Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The 22-year-old Guerrero is off to a sizzling start, which is great news for both fans and fantasy baseball managers. The former top prospect is hitting .346 with seven home runs and 19 RBI. Both his batting average and home runs are currently ranked within the top-five. Guerrero Jr. has been a great play in DFS and is someone, who needs to be in your standard fantasy baseball lineup.

Rookies to Watch

We only have one rookie to highlight on Saturday and that is Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena. The postseason star from last year has continued his hot hitting in 2021 and been one of the Rays’ best players. The 26-year-old is slashing .287/.343/.426 with three home runs and 11 RBI this season. Over the last seven days, Arozarena is hitting .308 with a home run, four RBI, and OPS of .819.
