The Mets let RHP Robert Gsellman know that he’s on the team’s Opening Day roster, according to the New York Post’s Mike Puma.
The team parted ways with multiple pitchers on Sunday after their spring training game against the Miami Marlins, including Jerry Blevins, Stephen Tarpley, and Mike Montgomery.
Gsellman has been apart of the Mets organization since 2011, when he was drafted in the 13th round of the MLB June Amateur Draft out of high school. He’s played five seasons in the majors, going 20-15 with a 4.67 ERA and 263 strikeouts over 322.0 IP.
In the shortened 2020 season, Gsellman had a 9.64 ERA in six games (four starts) with nine strikeouts over 14.0 IP. Through 8.0 IP over five spring training games, he’s allowed five earned runs and five hits, including two homer runs.
Blevins had a 3.18 ERA in 5.2 IP over six games this spring training, while Montgomery was 1-1 with a 6.14 ERA over four games (one start) and 7.2 IP.
The Mets will play their final spring training game of the year on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals at 12:05 p.m. Their first regular season game takes place on Thursday, April 1 against the Washington Nationals at 7:09 p.m.
