Mets prospects J.T. Ginn, Alexander Ramirez added to St. Lucie roster ahead of professional debuts

In what is an exciting development for the Mets’ minor league system, right-handed pitcher J.T. Ginn and outfielder Alexander Ramirez have been added to the Low-A St. Lucie Mets’ roster in advance of their professional debuts.

Ginn, who underwent Tommy John surgery last March, had been rehabbing at times alongside Noah Syndergaard during the recovery process.

The 22-year-old Ginn — selected by New York in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft — is the Mets’ second-best pitching prospect (behind Matt Allan) and their No. 6 overall prospect, per SNY contributor Joe DeMayo.

Wrote DeMayo about Ginn in SNY’s most recent top 20 Mets prospects list:

If Ginn had not been injured, he would not have made it to the Mets’ first round pick, let alone their second. There is opportunity for this to be a steal. Ginn has a bowling ball of a sinker that gets up to 97 mph and a plus slider. He needs work on the changeup, but Ginn could be a legit No. 2 or No. 3 starter.

With Ginn coming off Tommy John surgery, the Mets will have him on a strict innings limit this season, but he’ll be a fun pitcher to keep track of as he gets acclimated in St. Lucie.

Ramirez, whom the Mets signed as an international free agent in 2019, is their No. 10 overall prospect per DeMayo.

If you’d like to dream, Ramirez has the potential to be above average or better in all five tools. He was signed for $2.05 million in 2019, which was the Mets’ biggest bonus of the year and is a very projectable 6’3” and 175 pounds with room to fill out. Offensively, he already shows an advanced knowledge of the strike zone and shows the ability to spray line drives gap to gap. As he fills out, the thought is he will tap into above average power. Defensively, he projects to be able to handle center field, but also could shift to a corner as he has a solid arm.
