Francisco Lindor may be one of the newbies in the Mets clubhouse, but he is a six-year veteran who has been to four All Star Games and one World Series.
With that resume, along with two Silver Sluggers and as many Gold Glove Awards, Lindor has a veteran presence.
Lindor spoke with SNY’s Steve Gelbs on Wednesday’s Mets Hot Stove about leadership in an MLB clubhouse such as the Mets’.
“Example — being a great person to model themself after,” Lindor said. “Communication — being able to communicate, getting on people when you have to get on someone, but doing it the right way. Understanding — being able to understand the situation you’re in. Understand the circumstances. Understand there’s going to be adversity in everything we do in life.
“When I hear the word ‘leader,’ you have to have at least one of those things, because there’s different types of leaders. There’s the leaders that they run and they play right way, but they don’t talk. They can’t talk to people. They don’t know how to teach. Or when they talk, it’s like, ‘Bro, what are you doing? Calm. Get calm. Be calm.’
“There’s others that just by looking at you they’ll understand you’re going through something. They’re very understanding. And then there’s others that know how to communication. They’re not a good person to model yourself after, but when they talk to you, they sound like they know what they’re doing. And that, to me, makes the leader.”
