Extension talks with Francisco Lindor and Michael Conforto might be garnering the most attention, but Noah Syndergaard is another player the Mets are engaged with now, too.

Syndergaard has always been a potential extension candidate, but Lindor and Conforto took precedent. Now, according to MLB Network‘s Jon Heyman, the Mets have checked in with Syndergaard’s agents to see what his price tag might be.

Heyman says that the price tag for Syndergaard is “tough to pinpoint” because he is coming off Tommy John surgery and hasn’t been able to show the Mets what he can do in live games yet. Syndergaard has a summer return date expected and he appears to be on track for it.

With Marcus Stroman heading to free agency as well, the Mets may be hard-pressed to get a deal done with Syndergaard before he reaches the open market. If both pitchers were to walk, there would be a huge void behind Jacob deGrom and Carlos Carrasco in the starting rotation.

There are only four days left until Opening Day, or better known to Mets fans as Lindor’s extension deadline. So that will be getting the most spotlight.

But pay attention to Syndergaard’s status with his extension talks throughout the year, especially when he eventually returns to the Citi Field mound.
