Cormier, who pitched for five teams over 16 MLB seasons, dies at 53

Rheal Cormier, who played 16 Major League Baseball seasons and last pitched in MLB for the Cincinnati Reds in 2007, died after a battle with pancreatic cancer, according to an announcement from the Philadelphia Phillies. He was 53.

Cormier pitched for the Phillies from 2001 to 2006, his longest stint with any team during his MLB career. The Phillies traded him to the Reds for Justin Germano in July 2006.

Cormier appeared in 27 games over two seasons for Cincinnati in 2006 and 2007.

Cormier turned 40 two weeks before he was released by the Reds in May 2007. He signed with the Braves a week later but did not make an appearance for Atlanta and was granted free agency at 

The left-handed pitcher posted a 4.03 ERA in 683 career appearances, mostly in relief.
