Women’s Lacrosse Rally Falls Short at Saint Francis U

The Central Connecticut State women’s lacrosse squad had a late rally come up short at Saint Francis U, falling 18-14 on Saturday in Northeast Conference action at Loretto, PA. CCSU had six players score multiple goals, led by junior Katelyn Parker who notched four scores.

The Blue Devils travel to Bryant on Wednesday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Parker opened the scoring just two minutes into the game. Freshman Talie Richardson would score at the 10:50 mark and Parker’s second of the day put CCSU ahead 3-1 at the 10:32 mark of the first quarter.
  • SFU would storm back with four goals over the final 8:32 to take a 5-4 lead. Sophomore Lauren Valluzzi notched a goal at 6:27 to interrupt the Red Flash spurt.
  • The Red Flash would extend their lead, outscoring CCSU, 6-3, in the second quarter. Richardson and juniors Madison Palumbo and Olivia Gianakos would each score for the Blue Devils in the period to make it 11-7 at halftime.
  • The teams alternated scores to open the second half. Palubo and graduate student Rosie Sconzo each scored and Parker’s third goal of the game made it 13-10 with 4:38 to play in the third period.
  • SFU would score three in a row to close the period. Sconzo would open the fourth quarter with a goal to make it 16-11. Following two Red Flash scores, CCSU would score three straight to close the game.
  • Gianakos and Valluzzi would spark the Central rally with back-to-back goals. Parker added another with 1:48 to play to make it 18-14, but CCSU would be unable to score again.

  • Parker has multiple goals in consecutive games. She added three draw controls and a groundball.
  • Junior Gaby Melendez had a team-high five groundballs. She added an assist and three draw controls.
  • Gianakos leads the team in scoring. She also notched two caused turnovers, three draw controls and a groundball
  • Sophomore Kya Risher notched 15 saves. She also had three groundballs.
