Valluzzi Scores Four, Blue Devils Fall to the Gaels On the Road

Central Connecticut women’s lacrosse dropped its roadmatch to the Iona Gaels Wednesday in a 20-7 loss. Sophomore attack Lauren Valluzzi scored four goals in the game for CCSU, a career high.

KEY MOMENTS

  • After a missed free position attempt, the Blue Devils were able to hold the ball on attack and set up Valluzzi for the score. She circled to the top of the key and sent one past the Gaels’ goalie. Talie Richardson was credited with the assist.
  • The Gaels were able to answer right back shortly after thanks to a free position attempt with nine minutes to play in the first quarter. Iona scored three more unanswered goals before the end of the first quarter.
  • The Blue Devils put up three quick shots to start the second quarter, but it was the Gaels who got on the board first with a free position shot goal. They went pn to score the next five before Valluzzi notched her second score of the day, this one on a free position attempt sent percectly past the defense.
  • After Valluzzi’s goal, the Blue Devils won the face off and went straight at the Gaels’ defense. Olivia Gianakos drove down the field in a flash and put up another score 20 seconds after Valluzzi’s.
  • Valluzzi opened the second half with the Blue Devils’ first hat trick of the season. The sophomore scored her third of the game just over a minute into the third quarter, and sent another shot the next possession that was just wide.
  • Madison Palumbo notched her first assist of the season with a pass to Valluzzi for her fourth score of the game.
  • CCSU again converted on a free position shot attempt, this one taken by Jessica Denike.
  • Richardson added a goal to her stat sheet with six minutes to play after assisting on the first goal of the game.

NOTES

  • Valluzzi’s previous scoring high in a game was two goals scored against Merrimack last season.
  • Gianakos’ goal was her second of the season for CCSU.
