HELLO!! Welcome to the first episode of our newest podcast, The Jersey Crosse Report, a New Jersey-focused lacrosse podcast. This will be a regular podcast that delves into the world of lacrosse in the Garden State.
I was honored to get to speak with Delbarton Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach Matt Kovachik for the kick-off episode. Delbarton School is an independent, Benedictine, Catholic all-male college-preparatory school in Morristown, NJ. Delbarton is a rigorous and very highly regarded high school and their lacrosse team is routinely ranked as one of the best in the nation.
Coach Kovachik first started with the program in 2001 as an assistant coach and took over after the 2017 season. Coach Kovachik was inducted into the New Jersey Lacrosse Hall of Fame in February of 2019 and has continued the Green Wave’s remarkable run of success over the last 25 years.
I talked to coach about his background, how he got into coaching, what it’s like coaching a major high school men’s lacrosse program in Jersey, & his thoughts on the state of the game in the Garden State. It was a great conversation and one I think all lacrosse fans, whether they be from Jersey or not, will enjoy.
