Northeast Conference Announces Preseason Women’s Lacrosse Poll

The Central Connecticut women’s lacrosse team was picked eighth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll it was announced on Wednesday. The Blue Devils are slated to open the season on Feb. 20 at Monmouth.

Head coach Betsy Vendel is set to begin her fourth season in charge of the Blue Devils. Vendel’s squad is slated to return six of its top seven scorers. Sophomore Eliz Fino ranked second in scoring (10 G, 3 A), while sophomore Katelyn Parker (9 G) was third. Molly Coogan returns as a graduate student after posting seven points (6 G, 1A), and collecting a team-high 23 draw controls with eight caused turnovers.

Defending NEC champion Mount St. Mary’s earned seven first-place votes and was picked to finish first, followed by Wagner which received one vote. LIU was third, followed by Bryant which collected the final first-place vote. Howard begins its first season with the NEC in 2022 and was picked ninth.

The Blue Devils are scheduled to play their first home game on March 5 against New Hampshire. Central opens Northeast Conference play on March 26 at Wagner. 

The four-team, single-elimination NEC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament will take place at the high seed on May 5 & 7.
