New York Riptide Sign Damon Edwards to One-Year Contract

August 10, 2021 – National Lacrosse League (NLL) – New York Riptide News Release

Uniondale, NY – The New York Riptide have signed defenseman Damon Edwards to a one-year contract, the team announced today. The deal is pending league approval. Per team policy, no terms were released.

The 31st overall pick in the 2009 NLL Draft, Edwards made his professional debut for the Boston Blazers, before signing with his hometown Toronto Rock as a free agent in 2011. The eight-year veteran has played in 129 career games, scooping 428 loose balls and causing 89 turnovers. Edwards has also added 87 points on 38 goals and 49 assists in his career. In 2019-20, Edwards appeared in 11 games, scooping 33 loose balls, causing six turnovers, and adding seven points on four goals and three assists. “As soon as the unrestricted free agency began, we targeted Damon as a priority to sign,” Riptide General Manager Jim Veltman said. “He has earned the respect of teammates and opponents throughout the league for his tenacious defense and edgy style of play that makes playing against him very difficult. We are thrilled to add him as a pillar of our defense for years to come.”

The Riptide will return to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum for the franchise’s second season this December.
