Letters to the Editor: Burning churches is a hate crime

TERRORISTS?
Licia Corbella is absolutely correct in describing the burning of churches, like the burning of synagogues or mosques, as hate crimes. I’d like to take it a step further. People like B.C.’s Civil Liberties Association head Harsha Walia who stated “burn them all down” and Gerald Butts, Trudeau’s ex-lackey, who said “arson is understandable” should be labelled as terrorists as both of them have aided and abetted criminal behaviour with their comments. These people promoted hate speech and belong behind bars because of their comments. If I had made similar comments about synagogues or mosques, I would have had the book thrown at me. This nation doesn’t need haters like them.

(Both made disrespectful comments. They deserve the criticism.)

NO-GO FOR J.LO
OMG! What is wrong with you guys and your obsession with J.Lo? There is nothing in the entertainment business besides her and the Kardashians? Plenty of Canadian artists that would welcome exposure.

LOTS TO THIS TRAGEDY
Before the invention of vaccines and antibiotics, many children died of serious diseases in families, orphanages and residential schools, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous. I am certain it is possible to find unmarked graves of many of these all over Canada. Grave markers don’t last forever. The real tragedy here is not the unmarked graves — it is that the Indigenous children were forcibly taken from their families and mistreated. We cannot change the past. Burning and vandalizing churches and statues will not bring these children back. These actions only build more resentment and animosity and do not promote reconciliation.

CLEAR THE AIR
Calgary politicians are at it again, this time over the boondoggled arena deal. Accusations are flying around the chamber namely aimed at Coun. Farkas’ persistent effort to shed some light on the financial side of the deal. But this time his critics on the council are determined to silence him. They remember the Olympic fiasco and the decision by the Calgarians to reject their pet project. And they do not want to go down twice due to some political neophyte challenging the ways they are used to. You can almost smell the hate in the chamber. And when the hate is so thick, common sense has quickly evaporated. To the old-timers on the council I say “two terms and out” before the ego of the position catches up with you.

(Transparency is needed. Politicians must remember it is taxpayers’ money!)

JOKE’S ON US
When will someone put a laugh track after everything Justin Trudeau says? (Ummm, errr, ahhh, ha, ha, ha.) These are scary days we are living in — the price of steak is so high I had to kill a vampire with a cheap pork chop through the heart.
