GOODBYE, KAYCEE
Kaycee Madu, another entitled UCP joke. So is this the justice minister who came up with the notion that Albertans lose the right to be assumed innocent of traffic offences without being punished by some phony non-refundable fee? Premier Jason Kenney must fire this minister for another example of his poor judgment. He showed no qualms about contacting Edmonton’s police chief regarding a traffic ticket. It matters not whether he was trying to have it removed, it was completely wrong for him to even contact the chief when he was the one who got the ticket. Is this the new justice for Albertans, one rule for the UCP and something different for the rest of us. He has to go now.

(Agreed. To the backbenches until the election. Complete lack of integrity where you arguably need it most.)

SHORT OF SKILL
I’m not a hockey expert but I know enough that if you take a 30-goal scorer and put him on the fourth line, and then give regular playing time to players like Trevor Lewis, Brad Richardson, Brett Ritchie, Blake Coleman and Tyler Pitlick, you will not make the playoffs and you will ruin the team chemistry. We have a great group of core players that are playing with guys that can’t keep up or finish the play. I’m not knocking the guys I mentioned above but you can’t have them all on one team. We also have really good players in Stockton that we should be giving playing time in the NHL. The Flames have won two games in their last 10 and the wins were against Seattle and Chicago. Come on, Darryl Sutter, we are better than this.

WHAT’S THE POINT?
The federal government has advised Canadians to avoid non-essential travel to Ukraine, citing “Russian aggression.” Why is Foreign Minister Melanie Joly going there, since her visit will accomplish absolutely nothing and is therefore non-essential? Maybe her boss can explain why, in his own high-falutin, convoluted style.

(Why wouldn’t she be there? It’s her job to deal with such stuff. How she does her job is another matter.)

IT’S ALL GOOD
Re: New arena. The Calgary Flames have been in Calgary since 1980. That’s 40 years. If they left Calgary, there would be no hockey for people to go to. That’s their entertainment for the evening. People like to go to sporting events. The older people can just stay home and go to bed. As for the arena, it will be built. Hope city council will get it straightened out. Even if it costs $700 million, the new arena will be built. If they start to build it in June of this year and have it finished by the start of the 2024-2025 season, the Flames will stay in Calgary forever.

NO SOCIAL MEDIA
Re: Brenda K. Oswald letter, Jan. 14, 2022. Totally agree about announcing big happenings and deals effecting our citizens and tax dollars not being reported on “social media”. If you are the mayor of a million-strong city, give your head a shake. Face the “real public” on TV, newspapers, etc. “The people paying your salary!” And quit trying to run this city as your own personal acquirement.
