FireWolves Drop Home Opener, 16-7: by the Numbers

The Albany FireWolves (0-2) was defeated by the Rochester Knighthawks (2-1) on Saturday night at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. by a score of 16-7. The FireWolves struck first in the game, but Rochester took over the momentum as the Knighthawks spoiled Albany’s home debut. Joe Resetarits returned to the Capital Region where he starred collegiately and led the way for the FireWolves offense, logging a team-high 3 goals, all of which came in the fourth quarter. Colton Watkinson added 3 points of his own, all assists. Tony Malcom and Andrew Kew had 2 points each, both 1 goal and 1 assists to their names, while Reilly O’Connor also had 2 points on 2 assists for the night. Jackson Nishimura and Jacob Ruest rounded out the FireWolves goals with 1 goal each while Greg Downing and Tanner Thomson each added 1 assist. So far through 2 games played, Kew leads the FireWolves with 8 total points on 5 goals and 3 assists. Resetarits, O’Connor, and Watkinson are second on the team, all with 5 total points each.

The Knighthawks offense fired a total 52 shots on goal. FireWolves goalie, Doug Jamieson recorded 36 saves on the night, bringing his total to 79 on the year with a .752 save percentage.

Once again, Joe Nardella dominated the faceoff circle for the FireWolves. Nardella won 21 of 27 faceoffs and matched Downing for a team-high 8 loose balls. On the season so far, Nardella has owned faceoffs, winning a whopping 38 out of 48. His 79.2 faceoff winning percentage tops the league among those who have taken at least two faceoffs on the season.

Defensively, Curtis Conley led the FireWolves with 2 caused turnovers. Downing and Nick Chaykowsky both recorded 1 blocked shot and 1 caused turnover each.

Albany was just 1-4 on power play opportunities with the 1 power play goal coming from Ruest.

The next game for the FireWolves is a home matchup versus the Saskatchewan Rush on Saturday, January 8 at 7:00 pm in the Times Union Center.
