Barrel racing has a new star and she’s all of nine years old. Prince George, BC, resident Ainslee Meise sits at the top of the leaderboard in the BC Rodeo Association’s peewee rodeo barrel racing category.
According to a story in the Prince George Citizen, the young girl has been riding since she could walk. Ainslee’s mom, Kim, is also a barrel racer. Indeed, according to the story, Ainslee’s flashy palomino, aptly named Speedle, was originally her mom’s horse. But once mom saw how her little girl and Speedle worked together, she gave up the ride. “They take care of each other,” Kim told the news outlet, adding that Ainslee was only three years old when she completed her first solo barrel race.
Ainslee won most recently at the Rodeo Prince George after stopping the clock with a time of 16.242 seconds, after which she told her mother, “Today was probably the best rodeo I’ve ever been to.”
