ITV Racing Tips and Preview: Newmarket & Haydock

The Cambridgeshire Handicap is the centrepiece of a good day’s racing from Newmarket. We preview the big races from Newmarket and Haydock this weekend, including tips for the main events, all of which you can watch on ITV Racing as well as via live streaming on MansionBet.

Racing from Newmarket

1:50 – Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes

The Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes kicks off the action on ITV and Masekela just about holds favouritism after a battling success last time out at Newbury. He held of the strong challenge of Bayside Boy who has since gone on to win the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.

Charlie Appleby and Godolphin are in amazing form at the moment and they have the unbeaten Coroebus running. He scored nicely on debut here at Newmarket and is open to a lot of improvement. I’m told they really like him at home and they are confident of a huge run today.

Selection – Coroebus 5/2

2:25 – Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes

The unbeaten Sacred Bridge for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane are strong favourites for the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes. She has been in flying form since her debut in Naas at the end of June and she comes here off the back of winning a Group 3 at the Curragh last time out.

Sacred Bridge won’t find this easy as Sandrine and Zain Claudette both bring very solid form in to the race. Sandrine was beaten by Zain Claudette last time out in the Lowther Stakes after she dwelt in the stalls and could never quite get to Zain Claudette who was always doing more than enough. It was a brilliant day for Ray Dawson who rode his first Group win and what a day it would be if he could win his first Group 1.

Selection – Zain Claudette 9/2

3:00 – Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes

Perfect Power won the Darley Prix Morny at Deauville last time out in fantastic style and Christophe Soumillon again rides the impressive colt for Richard Fahey in the Middle Park Stakes.

Armor and Asymmetric both line up again against Perfect Power and they will be hoping to turn the form around, I personally can’t see them doing that here today at Newmarket. Dr Zempf will be the horse to challenge Perfect Power in the closing stages after an impressive run last time out in the Keenland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

Selection – Perfect Power 15/8 NAP

3:40 – Cambridgeshire Handicap

The hugely competitive Cambridgeshire is always a difficult race to find the winner. We currently have a shortish price favourite in Uncle Bryn for the Gosden’s. He won in good style at Ascot at the start of the month with Frankie Dettori onboard who rides Magical Morning in the race today.

Astro King is an interesting runner in the race today, he has been knocking on the door all season and he was only just beaten in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot. I’m sure he will run his race here again today and is a pretty safe E/W option in the race.

At a big price I think the George Boughey trained horse Anythingtoday could run a huge race. Daniel Muscutt keeps the ride after winning on him at Lingfield in the Racing League at the end of August. Before that Hollie Doyle rode him to success here at Newmarket and I’m hoping he can repeat that here today.

Chichester has been the best backed horse coming in to the race. The irrepressible Hollie Doyle is on board today, so a huge run is expected. Chichester was available at 80/1 and is now as short as 9/1.

Selection – Astro King 15/2 and Anythingtoday 25/1 E/W

Racing from Haydock

2:05 – Betway Handicap

This again could be another winner for the Appleby and Godolphin team as Noble Dynasty will start off a pretty short price favourite. He got the job done last time out at Thirsk where he was favourite to win but it wasn’t overly impressive. I expect a much better performance today in a race he should really win and with Adam Farragher taking off a handy 5lbs he should take all the beating. Nugget for Richard Hannon is the obvious danger but he has to give weight all round here today.

Selection – Noble Dynasty 6/4

2:40 – Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap

Be Proud only just failed to win the Bronze Cup at Ayr last week for trainer Jim Goldie who won the race with the well backed Call Me Ginger. Be Proud must have a great chance here today if he can repeat the form of last week. If that has took too much out of him it could be worth siding with Copper Knight for Tim Easterby. Copper Knight won a very competitive handicap at York’s Ebor meeting and he beat the current favourite for today’s race Jawwaal.

Selection – Be Proud 15/2
