Women’s Golf Set to Make Run at Liberty League Title This Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women’s golf team will look to claim its first Liberty League championship this weekend, as the Bombers head to Turning Stone in Verona, N.Y. for a two-round event on May 1-2. The first round on Saturday begins at 12 p.m. and tie time for Sunday is slated for 11 a.m.

Ithaca has been the definition of consistent throughout the abbreviated season, as the Bombers have won all three events thus far and have carded team scores of 329, 327 and 327. IC has won each of its three events by at least 22 strokes.

The Bombers possess five extremely talented golfers, all of which have a legitimate chance at claiming medalist honors over the weekend.

Sophia Israel opened the year at Cortland with a low round of 78 at the Cortland Country Club on April 10 to finish second overall. Israel then carded an 80 to tie for second at the Pompey Club during the Central NY Invitational on the 17th and fired an 82 at the Country Club of Ithaca last Saturday.

Cristea Park and Mary Gersec tied for first at that Ithaca Invitational with 81s to secure their first-ever victories. Park has also shot an 82 and 84 so far this year, while Gersec began the season with an 88 and shaved eight strokes for an 80 at Pompey.

Israel, Park and Gersec have all been named Liberty League Performers of the Year so far.

Peyton Greco, the 2019 Liberty League Player of the Year, has posted rounds of 81, 83 and 83 so far. Greco highlighted her round of 83 at the Ithaca Invitational with an eagle on No. 7 from 70 yards out.

Caitlin McGrinder has shown significant signs of improvement after withdrawing from the opening round of the season. McGrinder shot a 95 at Pompey and followed up with a nine-shot improvement last Saturday, coming in with an 86.

Ithaca has won seven conference titles during its time as a varsity program. The Bombers won seven-straight Empire 8 Conference championships from 2010-11 to 2016-17. The 2013-14 team finished fifth at the NCAA Championships.
