Women’s Golf Returns to Action at Low Country Intercollegiate

The Youngstown State women’s golf team will resume its spring schedule on Saturday as it begins play in the Low Country Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford at Bear Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Penguins will be playing in South Carolina for the third straight event after playing a dual match vs. Charleston Southern and taking part in the Kiawah Island Classic, both of which were held at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C.

Youngstown State most recently finished tied for 19th out of 41 teams at the Kiawah Island Classic on March 2. Puthita Khuanrudee was YSU’s top finisher as she tied for 28th out of 210 golfers with a three-round score of 225 (73-79-73). The Penguins’ three-round team total of 925 is tied for the fifth-lowest 54-hole team score in program history.

The field for this weekend’s tournament features 16 other teams including Albany, Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Dayton, Elon, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Lipscomb, Presbyterian, The Citadel, UNC Asheville, UNC Greensboro, USC Beaufort, USC Upstate, Winthrop and Wofford.

The event will feature 36 holes of stroke play with the teams playing 18 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Tee times for Saturday’s first round will begin at 8:15 a.m. ET while tee times for Sunday’s second and final round will start at 8:30 a.m. The Penguins are scheduled to tee off at 9:35 a.m. ET on Saturday.

The course will play approximately 5,906 yards and par is 72. Live scoring will be available via BirdieFire.com and the BirdieFire app. Spectators will be allowed at the course during stroke play.

Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU’s lineup will include Katlyn Shutt, Khuanrudee, Christina Lewis, Victoria Gräns and Madie Smithco. Shutt, Khuanrudee and Lewis have competed in each of the team’s first two events this season. Smithco will be playing in her second event of the spring while Gräns will be participating in her first tournament of the campaign.
