Women’s Golf Leads After Two Rounds at the ECU Easter Invite

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s golf team opened on Saturday at the East Carolina University (ECU) Invitational held at the Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, N.C., shooting a 14-over 590 (293-297) in the first two rounds to finish the day in the overall lead.
 
Junior Tiffany Arafi led the Chanticleers on the course finishing the first two rounds with a two-under 142 (70-72). It was her best two-round total this spring as she scored eight birdies on the day. The Birsfeden, Switzerland native is sitting in second place just one stroke behind the opening-day leader heading into Sunday’s final round.
 
Nicole Abelar had an up-and-down day finishing with a four-over 148 (73-75). She struggled a bit in the morning round with four bogeys in her first seven holes, but turned that around to shoot a two-under 34 in the back nine. The freshman then was up-and-down again in the second round with four birdies and five bogeys to end the day tied for 11th heading into round three.
 
Caitlin Evans-Brand is tied in 18th place after shooting a six-over 150 on the opening day of action. She shot two rounds of 75 on the day, posting a 38-37 in both rounds.
 
Tied with Evans-Brand at 18th is sophomore Sophia Carlsen. She collected her 150 by also shooting a 75 in both the first and second rounds.
 
Senior Frantiska Lunackova struggled during the first two rounds of the invitational, shooting a 14-over 158 (79-79) on the day. She will enter tomorrow’s final round tied for 39th.
 
Only nine strokes separate the top five teams as CCU is only four strokes ahead of second-place Augusta who finished the day with a 594. Host East Caroline stands third with a 20-over 596. Campbell is fourth at 21-over (597) and College of Charleston rounds out the top-five after shooting a 23-over 599.
 
Tee times tomorrow will begin at 8:45 a.m. ET, with Coastal’s tee times set to begin at 9:30 a.m. on the first hole. Live stats for the event can be watched at www.GoCCUsports.com.
