Women’s Golf Earns Third-Consecutive Match Play Top-Three Finish with Runner-Up Placement at the Battle at Boon

FLORENCE, Ky. – Facing just the team’s fourth-ever match-play event, Morehead State women’s golf claimed its third-consecutive top-three finish at a match play event, wrapping up the Battle at Boone with a runner-up finish.

The Eagles opened the event with a 4.5-1.5 victory in the team’s first match versus Northern Kentucky to advance to the championship match. Morehead State narrowly fell in the championship match to Central Michigan, who took the match 4-2 with three of the Eagles’ dropped pairings close into the final two holes.

Morehead State returns to the course a week from Monday, taking aim at the Pinehurst Women’s Intercollegiate. Play at Pinehurst Resort’s No. 6 Course begins on March 29.

  • Winning her first pairing of the Battle at Boone, Bridget Connolly owns a program-best eight pairing in match play competition. The victory breaks a tie with Gypsie Hutchinson for the most in program history.

  • Sarah Black (1-0-1) became the third-ever Eagle to conclude a match play event without dropping a pairing, joining Hutchinson (3-0-1) at the 2020 Mid-American Match Play and Connolly (3-0-0) at the 2020 Oyster Shuck Match Play.

  • MacKenzie Neal’s victory Saturday marked the fifth of her career, ranking her third in program history in pairings won in match play competition.

  • Hailey Rietz picked up the fourth pairing victory of her career in match play, ranking fourth in program history.

  • As a program, Morehead State owns a 9-3 record in head-to-head matches during match play across four total events.
