AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s golf team opened play today on Saturday at the Valspar Invitational held at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., shooting a 10-over 566 (295-291) in the first two rounds to finish the day 12th.
 
Freshman Nicole Abelar continues to lead the Chanticleers on the course finishing the first two rounds with a one-over 145 (71-74). Her one-over in the opening 18 holes was the best score of any Chant in the opening round. She is tied for 33rd entering tomorrow’s final round.
 
Tiffany Arafi had a solid day shooting a three-over 147. She struggled a bit in the morning round shooting a five-over 77 but turned that around with the day’s best round for the Chants with a two-under 70 during the second round. She is tied for 45th after two rounds of play.
 
Frantiska Lunackova had a solid day of action finishing the day with a five-over 149. She had a 74 over the first 18 holes and a 75 in the second 18. She is tied for 59th entering tomorrow’s final round.
 
Sophia Carlsen is tied for 64th after finishing the day with a six-over 150 (73-77). Junior Caitlin Brand-Evans had the best turnaround from the first to the second round on Saturday. After struggling with an 80 in the morning, she was able to turn that around knocking eight strokes off her morning score with a 72 in the afternoon action. Her eight-over 152 has her tied for 73rd moving into tomorrow’s third and final round.
 
Duke leads the invite after shooting a 25-under 551. South Carolina is only one shot back with a 24-under 552. Rounding out the top five are Florida State with a 21-under 555, Wake Forest at 10-under 566 and Virginia finished the first two rounds with an eight-under 568.
