MANKATO — Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther’s Owen Wolter changed golf courses in the Mankato area, but still managed to make his mark in the fairways.
The Jaguars’ multi-tasking senior standout carded an 18-hole score of 96 during Thursday’s opening round of the Section 2A golf meet at North Links Golf Course to qualify for second-round action.
Wolter made a smooth transition from the prep baseball diamond to the Terrace View Golf Course’s tee boxes on May 18 to pencil in a 90 to earn a share of eighth place overall in the Valley Conference Meet en route to all-league honors.
Wolter produced a 50 on the front side of North Links on Thursday before closing with a 46 to make the cut for the sectional’s second round by one stroke. The Jaguar senior, who generated a team-best four pars, finished 25th individually during Day 1.
Wolter, who topped the Jaguar boys team’s ninth-place total of 424 during Round 1 on Thursday, joins Madelia’s Colby Wihlm and Colin Wihlm as area individual qualifiers for next week’s competition.

Colby Wihlm carded back-to-back nine-hole marks of 46 to net a 92 to earn a share of 18th place overall in topping Madelia’s eighth-place team total of 411. Colby Wihlm produced a squad-best six pars during his 18-hole round.
Colin Wihlm penciled in back-to-back 47s en route to a tie for 21st place individually at 94 for the Blackhawks. Wihlm connected for a birdie on the par-4 No. 4 hole to complement three pars.
Josiah DeMaris and Luke Stensrud rounded out Madelia’s counting scores. DeMaris sank one par while firing a 57-49-106, while Stensrud also made one par to pace his score of 64-55-119.
Jakob Fischer, Colby Brudelie, Wyatt Luhmann and Louis Bowers followed Wolter in the Jaguars’ scoring column during Thursday’s sectional meet.
