W&L Sweeps the ODAC Golf Weekly Honors



FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its Men’s & Women’s Golf Athletes of the Week on Wednesday and Washington and Lee swept the awards for the week ending March 30.
 
For the men, sophomore Pierce Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C. / Thomas Jefferson Classical) earned the weekly honor, while sophomore Megan Kanaby (Chapel Hill, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) earned the women’s award.  This is the second ODAC Athlete of the Week accolade for both Robinson and Kanaby this spring.
 

Robinson earned the ODAC Men’s Golfer of the Week Award after his play in the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday of this week.  Against a Division I field of 88 golfers, he placed in a tie for 25th overall with a +11 score of 73-73-75—221.  As a team, W&L tied for ninth overall with a score of 292-302-300—894 (+54) that was better than Radford, St. Bonaventure, Howard, Georgetown, St. Joseph’s (Pa.) and St. Francis (Pa.).
 
Through seven rounds this season, Robinson has posted a 72.29 stroke average, winning two of the three tournaments in which he has competed.
 

Kanaby secured the ODAC Women’s Golfer of the Week Award after a fine showing in the Kingsmill Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.  Also playing against a Division I field, Kanaby placed in a tie for 16th-place out of 67 golfers with a +21 score of 78-82-77—237.  The Generals finished ninth overall out of 12 teams, besting the likes of Presbyterian, St. Francis of Pennsylvania and Mount Saint Mary’s of Maryland.  W&L posted a 54-hole score of 336-340-314—990 (+126).
 
Kanaby has also played seven rounds this year and she claims a 78.29 scoring average.  She has two Top 5 tournament finishes, including one win.
 

The W&L men are back in action on April 17-18 at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational.  The women next play on April 25-26 at the ODAC Championship.
