Walworth golf course ready for busy spring

Just last Sunday, snow tubing was in full swing at Greytone. With temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s on Monday, golf clubs are now in full swing.

“It’s pretty cool seeing the phones ring off of the hook,” golf professional Dusty Odenbach said. “Just seeing the golf carts on the course… the customers are just thrilled to be out here, just getting their clubs out of storage and seeing the sun reflect on the course. It has been pretty cool so far.”

This will be the second season with COVID-19 restrictions in effect, but some restrictions are starting to ease up.

“So, last year we saw a huge spike in golf rounds, one like we have never seen before,” Odenbach said. “It was a big adjustment with staffing, the golf cart restrictions, dealing with one person per cart most of the year was difficult at times, and the sanitation of the golf carts—getting the carts flipped over and properly sanitized was definitely difficult.”

Greystone will still be taking precautions, but some things have changed.

“We are going to take the proper precautions,” Odenbach said. “Technically, you can share carts now. It is recommended you do wear a mask, so that helps us on our end because when we are sold out and we only have 75 golf carts to spare and people want their own cart, there were some difficult conversations last year.”

It looks like this season will feel a bit more normal.

“They definitely eased restrictions,” Odenbach said. “Last year, you were not allowed to touch the flagstick. We had a special cup design so the ball could pop up. There were no rigs in the bunkers. There were no sand bottles for divots, so that’s all eased. We are able to permit that to our customers.”
