HOLLISTER, Mo. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team capped off its season-opening tournament on Tuesday with a first-place finish at the College of the Ozarks Invite played at the par 71, 5,903-yard Ozarks National Golf Course.
SMSU, which held a four-shot lead over a pair of teams on Monday with a score of 360, shot a 334 on Tuesday and finished at 126-over-par 694, two shots ahead of second place McKendree (Ill.).
SMSU’s Sally Gallagher tied for the second lowest overall score on Tuesday with a 9-over 80 and finished second overall with a 25-over 167. Hannah Kohls, the first round leader following a 12-over-par 83, shot a 14-over 85 today and placed tied for third at 26-over 168.
Natasha Ainsley-Thomas from McKendree captured medalist honors with a 19-over 161.
Anneke Weg carded a 13-over 84 today and placed eighth overall at 37-over 179, while teammate Lauryn Driscoll shot a 14-over 95 on Tuesday and finished tied ninth at 38-over 180. Natalie Bohnert rounded out SMSU’s team scoring with a 24-over 95 and tied for 25th at 48-over 190.
Playing as individuals, Courtni Frank shot a 21-over 92 in the final round and finished tied for 20th at 45-over 187. Jacqueline Gossen shot a 19-over 90 today and was 24th at 47-over 189, Sydney Noel also improved from the opening round with a 22-over 93 and finished 31st at 55-over 197, while Ashley Trongard finished 33rd overall following Tuesday’s round of 29-over 100 for a two-day total of 59-over 201.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to action on March 29-30 at the Missouri Western State Invite at St. Joseph Country Club.
