On Saturday, June 11th, Southeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership, Inc. (SENCA) hosted their 16th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament at Kirkmans Lakeview Golf Course. A total of fifty-two, local and area golfers, participated in the four-person scramble.

Registration began at 7:30 a.m. Complimentary donuts and coffee were served. Following a welcome by SENCA, and a few instructions from Kirkmans staff, golfers headed to the course shortly after 8:30.

During the first nine holes, golfers had the opportunity to hit a hole-in-one on Hole #5 and win $10,000. While there were some great attempts, unfortunately no one walked away with the grand prize.

Half-way during the tournament golfers were treated to a box lunch, delivered to them on the course by volunteers from SENCA and OPPD who spent the day helping with the event. The golfers were also treated to homemade cookies that were baked and donated by Brenda Kuker of Humboldt.

With 13 teams participating in the event, SENCA awarded prize money for first and second place in two flights. The Ben Clark team won first place in Flight 1 with a score of 63, Koch & Company 1, took second place in Flight 1 with a score of 65. In Flight 2, The Meyer Team won first place with a score of 69 and the Ted Godemann Team won second place with a score of 71.

Nine golfers also took home Flag Prizes, nine holes of golf and a cart, courtesy of Kirkmans Lakeview Golf

Golfers purchasing raffle tickets were entered into a special drawing that included 3) $50 American Express Gift Cards and a Frontier Cooperative zippered bag filled with a variety of nice items.

The golf tournament and raffle are part of SENCA’s Annual Discretionary Fund Raiser. As a private, nonprofit Community Action Agency, approximately 25% of funding is derived from private donations and community giving. These dollars are essential in helping fund projects such as the annual Community Leadership Scholarship, develop new programs, and provide cash match for competitive grants.

Each year, typically in February or March, SENCA mails letters to community partners throughout the agency’s seven county service area asking for monetary support. All donors are recognized at the golf tournament according to their level of giving $100 Bronze, $250 Silver, $500 Gold, $750 Platinum, $1,000 Titanium and $2,500 Gold Tournament. Donors providing raffle prizes, food items, flag prizes, and the Hole-in-One are also recognized.
