San Angelo Central girls finish third, Honea takes 2nd at home golf event

San Angelo Central High School’s Ryann Honea finished second in the medalist standings Saturday and the Lady Cats were third as a team at the District 2-6A Preview golf tournament at Bentwood Country Club.

Midland Legacy’s Sarah Reed shot 71-71–142 to win the medalist title by two shots over Honea (72-72–144). Central’s Emily Coronado placed fourth after shooting 78-79–157.

In the team standings, Odessa Permian fired rounds of 331-332–663 to win the title by 28 strokes against Legacy (352-339–691). Central was third at 349-345–694.

Rounding out the scores for the Lady Cats were: Olivia Cooper (97-98–195); Abby Wetz (102-102–204); and Micaela Falcon (102-102–204).

“We were not at 100% this weekend,” Central head coach Blake O’Dell said. “Our girls are going to have to work real hard over the upcoming holiday break and stay on top of their game.

“Hopefully the girls will be ready by spring to make a run at the district championship, which will be played right here at Bentwood. I know our girls can do it. They just have to work real hard for it.”

Central’s Blue team was led by: Savannah Beaty (95-96–191); Franchesca Untalan (107-98–205); Lilliana Lytle (116-106–222); and Lillyan Leto (110-NS–NS). The Lady Cats’ fifth player for the Blue team didn’t finish a round.
