Last time we saw our heroes…
Jackson Freaking Suber. That’s it. That’s the recap. The Tampa native showed up to Baton Rouge and laid waste to an entire field of some of the best collegiate golfers in the country. Suber went under par in all three rounds on the bayou, carding 71-69-71 for a total of -5, three shots clear of his nearest challenger.
The Suber boat race was his second consecutive individual win this year. Suber was top medalist at the Jerry Pate in Alabama last Fall. With the win, Suber rockets up the individual Golfweek Rankings into the Top 50 and earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors for his efforts.
Suber’s monster weekend kept the team score respectable, bringing in the squad at an 8th place finish among 15 teams, placing just behind Top 25 teams Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee. Besides Suber’s effort, the high qualifying team member was Freshmen Brett Schell, who carded a +11 total for a T49 placement.

The 31st-ranked Rebels:
Jackson Suber (Jr., Tampa, Fla.): Going for the three peat. Has won the individual title in his last two events. Ranked as the #32 collegiate golfer in the country.
Sarut Vongchaisit (Jr., Bangkok, Thailand): Rough start to the Spring for the usually steady Root. Finished T77 last time out in Baton Rouge.
Cecil Wegener (Sr., Jackson, Miss.): Rollercoaster week in Baton Rouge, but finished the tournament strong with an even par 72. Something to build on.
Veeti Mahonen (Soph, Kirkkonummi, Finland): Also had a bit of an up and down tournament last time out. Finished T61 after carding a +2 in the final round at LSU.
Brett Schell (Redshirt Fr., St. Augustine, Fla.): The big Freshmen continues to impress. Had a solid tournament going until the final day in Baton Rouge. Finished T49.
Jack Gnam (Junior, Ridgeland, Miss.): Been fighting for a spot in the starting rotation all year. Competed as an individual in Baton Rouge, coming in with a T33 +8 score.
The Field: No. 8 North Carolina, No. 18 Liberty, No. 28 North Florida, No. 32 NC State, No. 31 Ole Miss, No. 47 Louisville, Miami (Ohio), UCF, Penn State, Kent State, ETSU, Indiana, Virginia Tech, UNCG, East Carolina, as well as Coastal Carolina
The top individuals who will be playing for second: This is usually where I list out a bunch of guys ranked in the Top 50 that OUR SONS have to contend with in a given tournament, but this time, I just need you to know about one guy, competing under Coastal Carolina’s banner. Meet States Fort.
