No. 11 Women’s Golf in 12th after second round at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 11 Texas Women’s Golf team shot a 24-over-par 312 on Saturday and are in 12th place at 48-over-par 624 (312-312) following the second round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Junior Sophie Guo leads the Longhorns through 36 holes at 10-over-par 154 (75-79), while Sophomore Bentley Cotton shot a two-over-par 74, the low round on the day for the Longhorns, to help her move up 23 spots in the individual standings.

In addition to the Longhorns (No. 11 in the latest Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll, released on March 25), the 15-team Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic field includes: No. 4 Wake Forest, No. 5 South Carolina, No. 8 Alabama, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 14 USC, No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 23 Ole Miss, College of Charleston, host Georgia, Georgia Southern, Houston, Louisville, Mercer and Mississippi State. Eight of the 15 teams participating are currently ranked among the nation’s top-25.

No. 5 South Carolina leads the field at 10-over-par 586 (295-291) at the conclusion of the second round. No. 4 Wake Forest and No. 19 Texas A&M are tied for second and trail the leader by three strokes at 13-over-par 589.

Alabama’s Polly Mack and Texas A&M’s Hailee Cooper are the co-leaders in the individual standings at even-par 144. They hold a one-stroke advantage over a group of three players who are tied for third at one-over-par 145.



The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic concludes with 18 holes on Sunday, March 27th. Texas will be paired with Ole Miss and Mercer for Sunday’s final round. Tee times will begin at 7:47 a.m. CT from hole 10.



The Lineup

  • Junior Sophie Guo posted a seven-over-par 79 to stand in a tie for 40th place at 10-over-par 154 (75-79). Guo tallied one birdie (No. 7, par-5) on the day.
  • Graduate Brigitte Thibault shot a nine-over-par 81 to put her in a tie for 42nd place at 11-over-par 155 (74-81). Thibault also recorded one birdie (No. 11, par-4) during the second round. 
  • Sophomore Bentley Cotton carded a two-over-par 74 on Saturday and is tied for 50th at 12-over-par 156 (82-74). Cotton recorded five birdies (No. 11, par-4; No. 12, par-5; No.16, par-3; No. 5, par-4; No. 6, par-4) during day two.
  • Sophomore Ashleigh Park tallied a six-over-par 78 to stand in 63rd place at 16-over-par 160 (82-78). Park registered one birdie (No. 15, par-4) on the day.
  • Senior Sara Kouskova fired a 11-over-par 83 and is tied for 73rd place at 20-over-par 164 (81-83).
