Starkville, Miss. – The Centenary men’s golf team will compete in the MUW Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, hosted by Mississippi University for Women at the Mississippi State Golf Course.
The Gents continue their recent busy schedule as they are in action for the third time this month in preparation for the annual Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships next week.
Centenary was last in action on April 3 in Little Rock, Ark. as the Maroon and White finished second to the Hendrix College Warriors in an 18-hole dual match at Rebsamen Park Golf Course, shooting a 22-over par 310. Hendrix shot a 11-over 299 to win the match.
Sophomore Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) earned a runner-up finish versus Hendrix as he shot a 1-over par 73. Senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) shot a 6-over 78 to tie for fifth, freshman Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) shot a 7-over par 79 to finish seventh, and fellow freshman Riley Chase (Crosby, Texas) placed eighth after shooting an 8-over 80.
Senior Gage Garber (Coppell, Texas) shot an 11-over 83 to finish 10th and sophomore Devan Martin (Watson, La.) finished 11th after shooting a 13-over 85.
Two days prior to their match versus Hendrix, the Gents faced Louisiana College in the Wildcat Invitational at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria, La. Centenary finished second, shooting a +40 328 while the Wildcats shot a +30 318.
John shot the Gents’ lowest round of the day with a seven-over par 79, senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas) shot an 8-over par 80, Blair shot an 84, and Polan shot a 13-over par 85. Chase was one shot behind Polan with a 14-over 86.
Garber and Martin each played as individuals and both shot identical 14-over par 86’s.
The Gents’s lineup this week will be as follows: (1) Polan, (2) John, (3) Warner), (4) Blair, and (5) Chase.
