PINEHURST, N.C. – Duke senior Adrien Pendaries and graduate Steven DiLisio each carded second-round scores of 2-under 68 to pace the men’s golf team on the opening day at the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2.
As a team, the Blue Devils are in third place through 36 holes at 6-over and in striking distance of first-place Wake Forest (-3) with 18 holes to play on Tuesday. The host Demon Deacons lead the 11-team field at 3-under par, followed by North Carolina (+5), Duke (+6), NC State (+11) and Virginia (+21) to round out the top five.
Pendaries followed his opening-round 71 Monday morning with a 68 in the afternoon on the strength of five birdies. The senior from France is tied for fourth at 1-under 139, just two back of the 36-hole leader, Wake’s Michael Brennan. DiLisio, who birdied four holes in Monday’s second round, is three back of Pendaries in a tie for 11th at 2-over 142 (74-68).
Freshmen teammates Ian Siebers and Jimmy Zheng each had solid rounds and are tied for 20th at 4-over 144. Siebers posted 73 and 71, while Zheng signed for a pair of 72s. Senior Drew Powell followed his first round 71 with a second-round 74 and is tied for 24th at 5-over 145.
Playing individually, junior Quinn Riley opened with a 72 on Monday and capped the day by firing an even-par 70 and is in a pack tied for 11th at 2-over 142.
When Tuesday’s final round begins at 7:30 a.m., the Blue Devils will be searching for their third top-five team finish in four events this season. Live scoring is available via Golfstat.
