Three years after he won at Bay Hill, Rory McIlroy is the man to beat in the eyes of oddsmakers this week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
It took a while for McIlroy to add the Orlando stop to his regular Tour schedule, but his decision to put it into the rotation has paid off handsomely. He won here in 2018 and has finished no worse than T-6 each of the last four years, boasting a 69.8 scoring average in that span. He bounced back from a rare missed cut at Riviera with a T-6 finish last week in Bradenton, and now he’s listed as the +800 betting favorite according to PointsBet Sportsbook.
Right on McIlroy’s heels is Viktor Hovland, who is one of the hottest players on Tour. Hovland’s T-2 finish at The Concession was his fourth straight finish of T-6 or better and sixth such result in his last seven starts dating back to November. Behind Hovland is Bryson DeChambeau, a runner-up here behind McIlroy in 2018 and who will look to end a peculiar American drought at this event as no U.S. player has won at Bay Hill since 2015. Defending champ Tyrrell Hatton, who earned his first PGA Tour win at this event a year ago, is fourth on the odds list behind DeChambeau while Jordan Spieth is listed at +2900 in his tournament debut.
Here’s a look at some of the notable pre-tournament odds in Orlando, where McIlroy will look to add another red sweater to his closet:
