Houston Women’s Golf Ready to Go at The Bruzzy

ARGYLE, Texas – The University of Houston Women’s Golf program returns to action this weekend when it competes in The Bruzzy at Lantana Golf Club, beginning Sunday morning.
 
The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins with 36 holes starting with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., Sunday. The Final Round tees off with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start Monday.

THE LINEUP
Under the direction of Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell, freshman Zoe Slaughter, freshman Anne Normann, senior Ariana Saenz, junior Maria Jose Martinez and freshman Delaney Martin will wear the Scarlet and White for the Cougars.
 
Junior Annie Kim will compete as an individual.
 
Slaughter ranks third on the team with a 73.67 scoring average and has added six rounds of par or better to stand second among the Cougars.
 
The Houston native recently fired three straight sub-par rounds, including a career-low 67 in the First Round, to finish second at the MountainView Collegiate with a score of 8-under 208. For her impressive performance, she recently was honored as the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week.
 
Slaughter became the third different Cougar to win the program’s fourth American weekly award this season.
 
Normann tied for fourth at the MountainView Collegiate with a score of 5-under 211, thanks to 68s in the First and Final Rounds.
 
Sophomore Karen Fredgaard, who regularly competes in the Cougars’ starting lineup, will sit out The Bruzzy as she prepares to compete at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur on April 1-4.
 
THE FIELD
The Cougars will compete against No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Miami (Fla.), No. 21 Texas, No. 29 Iowa State, No. 30 Texas Tech, No. 33 Oklahoma, No. 38 and host North Texas, No. 42 TCU, Kansas State, Missouri, SMU, Tulane, UTSA, Colorado and San Diego State.

UP NEXT
Following The Bruzzy, Fredgaard will compete as an individual at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur on April 1-4 in Augusta, Ga. She earned the invitation as one of the nation’s premier amateur players.
 
From there, Houston will tee off at the Silverado Showdown at Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif., on April 5-7.
