Hartford Hawks Athletics – Women’s Golf Opens Spring 2021 Slate at Monmouth

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Hartford women’s golf team looks to open its spring 2021 slate in strong fashion when it travels to Lakewood, N.J. to partake in the first of three Monmouth Spring Series. Held at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club, the one-day event tees off on Monday, March 8.

HARTFORD NOTES

  • The Hawks head to the course for the first time in nearly a year after the 2020 spring campaign was limited to just one tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Returning seven student-athletes from last year’s squad, the Hawks added freshmen Leah Jones and Sofia Rodas 
  • Among the seven returners, the Hawks are led by reigning MAAC Individual Champion Maria Loza, who was Hartford’s top performer in all but one of the five tournaments she competed in last season
  • Loza ended the shortened season with a career-best 75.42 stroke average, topping her 75.53 mark she set in the 2018-19 season
  • Loza enters her senior campaign as Hartford’s all-time leader in career stroke average (75.21)
  • Sophomore Lara Yeung looks to build upon an impressive rookie season that saw her land a pair of top-20 finishes
  • Yeung saw her best performance at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic, in which she finished in third-place
  • Senior Brooke MacKinnon averaged a career-best 78.33 strokes over 12 rounds last season, the second-best mark on the team
  • MacKinnon posted a pair of top-25 finishes, which included a strong showing at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic (t-6th)
  • Head coach Pete Stankevich returns for his seventh season at the helm

The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday, March 14, when they travel to Watchung N.J. to take part in the FDU Knights Shootout.
