Longview, Texas – The Centenary golf teams will begin their spring seasons on Monday as the Ladies and Gents will participate in the Pinecrest Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University at the Pinecrest Country Club.
The teams will play 36 holes beginning Monday at 8 a.m. with the final round set for Tuesday at 8 a.m. The Gents have played just one tournament so far this season, finishing fifth in the Alamo City Classic last month, shooting a 20-over par 588 for the two-day event. The Ladies will be making their season debut this week after the annual Linda Lowery Invitational was cancelled last month due to inclement weather.
Sophomore Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) was the Gents’ top individual last month as she shot a 2-over par 144 for the tournament to place 10th overall. He fired an even-par round of 71 in the final round after opening the tournament with a 2-over 73. Centenary freshman Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) tied for 15th place in his Gents debut, finishing at 4-over par 146 after shooting rounds of 71-75.
Centenary freshman Riley Chase (Crosby, Texas) tied for 23rd place after shooting rounds of 71-78 – 149), senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas) finished in a tie for 26th (76-74 – 150), and senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) finished in a tie for 30th place (77-77 – 154). Polan picked up right where he left off last season as he had the lowest scoring average last season among all returners and picked up a pair of top-five finishes.
The Gents will go with a lineup of Polan, Warner, John, Blair, Chase, and senior Gage Garber (Coppell, Texas) and on the Ladies’ side they will feature junior Abigail Hayes (Plano, Texas), senior Shannon Orlopp (Rogers, Ark.), junior Lindsay Strohm (McKinney, Texas), and freshman Madison Wing (Shreveport). Strohm will be making her debut with the Ladies after competing on the women’s swimming team the last two seasons, and Wing will make her collegiate debut as well. Hayes and Orlopp provide experience for the team as each participated in multiple tournament last season and recorded top-50 finishes.
The Ladies and Gents will host the annual Hal Sutton Invitational March 21-23 at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City. The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships are scheduled for April 19-20 in Blanco, Texas.
