Clear Creek to offer Women’s Golf Clinic | Sports

For any women out there who currently are looking to become involved in the sport, or are avid golfers looking to perfect their game, the Courses of Clear Creek will be hosting a Women’s Golfing Clinic starting April 20.

Chuck McPhilomy is the assistant manager of the Courses of Clear Creek and the instructor for their golf clinics. He is very knowledgeable in all things golf, from the game itself and the equipment down to the proper attire.

“Typically, we conduct three adult clinics per year.  Men only in March through April; Women in April through May, and a co-ed clinic in September through October. Each of these clinics are five weeks in length and meet on Tuesday evenings, 1730-1845 (5:30-6:45 p.m.),” McPhilomy said. “I conduct two clinics for our junior golfers. The first in June and I repeat the clinic again in July.”

He acknowledged that many players pick up pointers here and there or just figure the game out on their own, but getting the right guidance is very important if you want to excel at golf and feel confident in your game.

“The importance of getting the proper instruction is invaluable. So many players are self-taught or get instructions from their family or friends,” he explained. “My goal is to have all of my students to develop their own swing, which they can use for the rest of their lives.”

For many players, golf is a time for them to de-stress and he hopes that those who participate in the course can also learn to use the game as a way to wind down from everyday stresses.

“I hope that the majority of my students find that golf is a game of relaxation and enjoyment,” he said. “You are outside getting some fresh air, you can observe nature, and even get a little exercise. But most of all, I want my students/players to have fun and enjoy themselves.”

The classes will be conducted on Tuesday evenings, each week, for five weeks (April 20-May 18) from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Subjects that will be covered include: putting, chipping, pitching, full swing, rules and etiquette. Players will take the skills they have learned and apply them on the course each class. The cost is $75 per person.
