Longview, Texas – The Centenary golf teams finished day one of competition in the Pinecrest Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University on Monday at the par -72, 5,925-yard Pinecrest Country Club.
The Ladies are currently in fifth place after the first round while the Gents also sit in fifth place. The Ladies shot a 137-over par 425 and the Gents fired a 19-over par 605 (302-303). The final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday.
East Texas Baptist is the current leader on the women’s side at 42-over par 330, Tyler Junior College is second (+44/332), Blinn College is third (+87/375), and host LeTourneau is fourth at +90/378. Murray State Community College is sixth after shooting a +152 440.
Madison Brown of Tyler is the current women’s individual leader after she shot a 6-over 78 and her teammate, Kaitlyn Charles, is in second place at +8 80. Max Schliesing of Houston-Victoria is the current men’s leader after shooting a 4-under par 138. Sophomore Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) is just three shots off the individual lead after shooting a 1-under 141, firing a career-low 3-under 68 in round one and then shot a 2-over 73 in round two. Polan and Schliesing are currently the only two individuals under par. He will try to make it consecutive individual champions in the event after former Gent Reed Balcerowicz won last year as he led centenary to a third-place finish.
Junior Abigail Hayes (Plano, Texas) is leading the way for the Ladies after shooting a 21-over par 93 in 16th place. Her teammate, senior Shannon Orlopp (Rogers, Ark.) is right behind her in 17th place after shooting a 22-over 94. Freshman Madison Wing (Shreveport) shot a 45-over 117 and is in 35th place and junior Lindsay Strohm (McKinney, Texas) is 17th after shooting a 49-over par 121.
Senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas) is tied for 16th after he shot rounds of 77-76 for an 11-over par 153 total. Fellow senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) is tied for 23rd (77-79 – 156), freshman Riley Chase (Crosby, Texas) shot a 20-over 162 (87-75) to finish in a tie for 36th place, freshman Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) is 45th after shooting a 15-over par 166 (80-86), and senior Gage Garber (Coppell, Texas) is tied for 55th after shooting a 32-over par 174 (88-86).

The Ladies and Gents will host the annual Hal Sutton Invitational March 21-23 at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City. The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships are scheduled for April 19-20 in Blanco, Texas.
