Boys’ and girls’ Minnewaska golf teams sweep WCC openers

Harste leads boys’ sweep

The Minnewaska boys’ golf team played in the BOLD Invite on the Olivia golf course on Wednesday afternoon. The Lakers took second place in the five-team field, with Cole Harste leading the way with a 77.

It was a good preview of the course that they would play again in a conference meet two days later.

On Friday the Lakers played the first of their two conference meets for the day, teeing it up in Montevideo.

A solid overall team performance led to a first place finish, six shots clear of second-place Benson.

Cole Harste paced the Lakers with a 38, which was the third best score posted in the meet.

Minnewaska completed their sweep of the two conference meets held on Friday, cruising to a 14-shot win over BOLD and Melrose.

Cole Harste and Riley Larson each tied for second place in the overall scoring. Both Lakers shot a 40 as the team again was very solid. Only four shots separated the six Minnewaska golfers.

The Lakers are at home on the Minnewaska Golf Club Tuesday morning before heading on to Morris in the afternoon in WCC action. The team will play invitationals on Wednesday and Saturday, first in Sauk Centre, then in Fairmont.

Girls’ win big in WCC action

The Minnewaska girls golf team opened their 2021 season on April 8 at Becker. The Lakers finished fourth in a strong field of 12 teams.

Annika Stensrud set the pace for the Lakers, shooting an 81, good for third place overall among 67 golfers.

Annika Stensrud fired a 74 to pace the Minnewaska girls’ golf team at the Pequot Invitational on April 15.

The Lakers finished third in the six-team field. Berkeley Steffen and Arivia Deboer also broke 100, shooting 91 and 98 respectively.

The girls’ golf team opened their West Central Conference schedule on Friday in Montevideo. Cool and wet conditions made scoring difficult, but it didn’t prevent the Lakers from easily outdistancing the competition.

Berkely Steffen shot a team best 38 while Annika Stensrud added a 42.

On Friday afternoon the Minnewaska girls were in Olivia for the second half of the WCC slate. Once again the Lakers were able to win by a wide margin, led by Annika Stensrud’s 38. Berkeley Steffen survived a pair of triple bogeys and still carded a 45. Arivia Deboer and Morgam Schwinghammer also broke 50 for the Lakers.

The Lakers will be in Morris to begin the day on Tuesday before heading back to Minnewaska Golf Club in the afternoon in WCC action. The team will play invitationals on Wednesday and Saturday, both in Alexandria. On Wednesday the team is at Alexandria Golf Club, on Saturday the venue will be Geneva Golf Club.
