DES MOINES — Sophie Meyer finished as the runner-up medalist in Baxter’s season-opening golf meet against Saydel on Monday. And Zach Backus was third in the boys’ meet against the Eagles at the par-35 Woodland Hills Golf Course.
Both Bolts teams lost to Saydel. The girls lost 251-260 and the boys fell 188-239.
Meyer shot a 59 to lead the Baxter girls. The only golfer who was better was Saydel’s Payton Ballard, who won medalist honors with a 58.
In the boys’ competition, Backus fired a career-best 47 to finish third on a cardback. Luke Vitritto shot a 39 as the medalist, while Beau Sutton shot a 47 to finish second.
Backus had a birdie on the par-4 No. 7. The other three scorers for the Baxter boys included Dalton Shanks, Hunter Hicks and Sam Cross, who carded a 57, 65 and 70, respectively.
Carter Samson had a 74 and Cameron Petermeier shot a 77.
For the Baxter girls, Corryn Padget was next after Meyer with a 64 and the other two scorers were Allison Colyn and Hallee Rainsbarger, who fired a 66 and 71, respectively.
The other two Bolts playing on the varsity were Bri Dahlke (77) and Abby McReynolds (85).
