BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Holy Trinity is returning to the green to host its annual golf tournament to benefit its student-athletes. The 2021 Vicky Hurst Holy Trinity Golf Tournament will take place on Sunday, April 25 Suntree Country Club.

Typically held in September, this longstanding Holy Trinity tradition was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The tournament, named after Holy Trinity Class of 2008 graduate and Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour member Vicky Hurst, is the school’s signature athletic fundraising event and plays an essential role in ensuring Holy Trinity’s outstanding athletics program continues to thrive year after year.

All proceeds enable Holy Trinity’s 41 athletic teams to cover the costs to replace equipment and worn-out uniforms, pay for team transportation to away games and tournament fees, as well as other immediate needs.

“It is an honor to have my name associated with this annual tournament and to be able to support a program that was instrumental in shaping me not only as a professional golfer, but I believe as a person,” said Hurst.

“As a product of Holy Trinity’s outstanding athletics program, I know first-hand the importance of athletics in developing lifelong skills such as teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship and the pursuit of excellence.”

Hurst, who took up the sport at the age of six, was a member of the boys’ golf team at Holy Trinity and the No. 1 golfer for three seasons. Throughout her high school golf years — from 2005 to 2008 — Hurst was one of the best young golfers in the state, capturing a host of trophies, including the Florida Women’s State Golf Association Junior Girls’ Championship’s “Junior Player of the Year.”

She was widely recruited by college golf coaches her senior year, but instead chose to turn professional and join the LPGA Tour in 2008 at just 17. She qualified for full playing status in 2009.

To honor her accomplishments, Holy Trinity established the golf tournament in her name which each year is played at Suntree Country Club, Vicky’s hometown golf course and where the school’s girls and boys golf teams practice and compete.

More than 80 percent (80%) of Holy Trinity students in grades 7-12 participate in one or more school sports. With a focus on educating the whole child, “mind, body and spirit,” Holy Trinity offers robust physical education and competitive athletic programs designed to promote positive social interaction and create well-rounded, healthy young adults.

“We are grateful to be able to bring this annual tradition back to the green this April and share an afternoon of fun and friendly competition with the Brevard community,” said James Phillips, Holy Trinity’s Director of Athletics.

“For so many of our students, athletics is such an essential part of their journey here at Holy Trinity, so it is important we give them every opportunity to challenge themselves while instilling in them the virtues of hard work, perseverance and teamsmanship — whether they choose to pursue sports as a school or recreational hobby or go on to play for college and maybe even turn pro like Vicky. Their opportunities here are limitless.”
