2021 BMW Championship leaderboard: Live coverage, golf scores, FedEx Cup Playoffs updates in Round 2

The second round of the 2021 BMW Championship got crazy in a hurry on Friday as Bryson DeChambeau had a 6-foot putt for a 59 on the final hole of his day. He missed it to shoot 60 but moved to 16 under for the week and took a lead in the tournament in the process. DeChambeau made a pair of eagles (and 12 threes!) en route to his 60 but finished par-par and failed to become the first player in nearly a year to shoot golf’s magic number.

The 60 was the best score of his career.

DeChambeau momentarily leads a host of other players — including Patrick Cantlay, who also briefly threatened 59 — as the second round winds down. Though DeChambeau could easily be overtaken by the end of the day, he’ll be among the leaders when they tee off on Saturday afternoon at Caves Valley Golf Club. Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson are all picking up steam behind DeChambeau’s finish as this tournament heads toward the weekend.

It’s not the starts that have been a problem for DeChambeau but rather the closing kicks. Twice he’s led or been near the lead going to the back nine on a Sunday this summer, and both times (U.S. Open and WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational) he’s shot something in the 40s coming home to fall way out of contention. This 60 will be a nice boost toward being in that position again on Sunday at Caves Valley as he looks for his third win of the season, but he’ll have a few recent demons — not to mention a handful of the best players in the world — to defeat if he wants to get it.
